OUR LEGACY: THE MARIA MANDAL REGION
The Maria Mandal Region is deeply rooted in a rich and illustrious history, marked by significant milestones and remarkable achievements. Since its inception, the region has been unwavering in its commitment to providing a wide array of services, encompassing education, pastoral ministry, social work, and healthcare. With 17 thriving communities spread across eight states and 11 dioceses in India, the region continues to advance its mission and vision through dedicated service.
In its early stages, the communities in the northern states were under the direct guidance of the Superior General and were classified as Mission Stations. However, a pivotal moment came in 1998 when Sr. Rozaire OSM was appointed as Mission Superior. This leadership marked a turning point, culminating in the elevation of the North Mission to the status of a Region on June 8, 2000, under the stewardship of Rev. Sr. Corona Mary OSM, the then Superior General.
This strategic decision was made to strengthen and expand the mission that had first been established in 1974. The primary focus was, and continues to be, the empowerment of local communities through the provision of quality education and essential healthcare services, particularly in the northern regions of India. The official naming of the Maria Mandal Region symbolized the dawn of a new era in our journey, one filled with promise and divine purpose.
OUR GROWTH AND MISSION
From these humble beginnings, the Maria Mandal Region has grown into a vibrant and influential force, a living testament to God’s divine work. Our progress is largely due to the efficient leadership and tireless dedication of the Sisters, whose unwavering commitment has allowed the region to flourish. Through their efforts, we now serve in multiple Archdioceses and Dioceses, where our impact is both profound and far-reaching.
Each Sister has made invaluable contributions since the region’s establishment, overcoming numerous challenges to ensure our continued growth and service. Through exemplary lives, selfless service, and a deep-rooted passion for mission work, the Sisters of the Maria Mandal Region have become beacons of hope and change. Their efforts have brought about meaningful and lasting improvements in the lives of countless individuals, particularly the poor and marginalized.
A FUTURE OF HOPE AND SERVICE
Despite the obstacles we continue to face, the Maria Mandal Region remains steadfast in its mission to serve the most vulnerable in our society. Our commitment to making a difference is unwavering, and we approach our work with grace, compassion, and a deep sense of responsibility. As we look to the future, we remain focused on building stronger, more resilient communities, driven by our core values and dedication to service.
Through our sustained efforts in education, healthcare, and social outreach, we strive to create a world where every individual has the opportunity to thrive. May the Maria Mandal Region continue to grow and serve as a source of inspiration and transformation, embodying the love and grace of God in every act of service.
This is our legacy, and this is our mission.
