Servite Spirituality
SPIRITUALITY
Our unique spirituality is rooted in the three defining elements of Servite spirituality:
Marian focus in spiritual life,
Commitment to community life with shared responsibility
Dedication to service.
MARIAN FOCUS IN SPIRITUAL LIFE
“Desiring to express the charism of the Servite Order, we give ourselves in service to others and so prolong the living presence of the Mother of Jesus in the history of salvation”
Marian orientation entails a deliberate emphasis on Mary's presence at the foot of the cross. In Mary, at the foot of the cross, we witness a profound example of total receptivity to God's unfolding love and choice, as well as a complete response of total self-gift. Mary's unwavering receptivity allowed grace to continually transform her, leading to her consecration and enabling her to fully engage in God's saving plan without reservation.
As members of the congregation of Mother of Sorrows Servants of Mary, our mission is to embody the living and compassionate presence of Mary at the foot of the cross in today's world. We strive to illuminate the significance of Mary's Sorrows for our contemporary society, seeking to bring comfort and understanding to our community.
COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY LIFE
“Behold how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity......
for there the Lord has commanded the blessing - Life for ever more" (Ps. 133:1, 36)”.
The community of Marys gathered at the foot of the cross serves as a powerful symbol of wholehearted dedication to Christ's liberating mission. These women faithfully accompanied Jesus throughout his public ministry, providing support and gaining wisdom from his teachings. During the most pivotal moments of his life, they stood by his side not only in empathy but also in unwavering solidarity with his beliefs. By emulating the example set by this community of Marys, we too, as a collective, become deeply entrenched in the transformative work of Christ.
Our communal existence hinges on embracing our fellow sisters in their entirety, recognizing both their strengths and weaknesses, and supporting one another as we strive to construct a spiritual edifice devoted to Christ. This mutual commitment to one another fosters a sense of unity and purpose, allowing us to grow and flourish as individuals and as a community dedicated to serving the greater good.
DEDICATION TO SERVICE
"I commissioned you to go out and to bear fruit, fruit that will last" (Jn. 15:16)
In today's world, we are confronted with countless crosses erected in the Calvary of our unjust society. Individuals are figuratively nailed to these crosses by the burdens of poverty, oppression, disease, ignorance, and helplessness. Like Mary, we stand alongside these individuals, offering support and empowerment so that they may be infused with the transformative power of Christ's resurrection.
Our mission is to achieve comprehensive liberation for individuals in all aspects of life - economically, socially, politically, culturally, and religiously. We focus our efforts on empowering women and children, who are our primary target groups.
